Finally realized my paint roller was rolling the wrong way after 8 years

I was painting my hallway in Austin last weekend and the texture kept looking streaky, turns out I was pushing the roller instead of pulling it, my buddy laughed and said 'you've been doing it backwards the whole time' lol. Has anyone else had a basic tool technique click way later than it should have?

Wait actually the trick is you shouldn't be pulling the roller either, you wanna do a zigzag pattern and then go back over it lightly. The push or pull thing is more about how much paint you're loading on, a lot of folks push down too hard and that's what causes the streaks, not the direction itself. But hey, eight years of backwards rolling means you have a consistent texture at least, that's something. My uncle did the same thing with a screwdriver, turned it the wrong way for a decade, stripped every screw in his house before someone told him. Painting's one of those things where you just do it how it feels natural until some friend points out you look like a human windshield wiper.
