Granite countertop guy told me to skip the fancy cleaner, wish I'd listened sooner

A fabricator in Omaha named Mike said all I needed was dish soap and warm water, but I kept using that $18 stone polish from the hardware store anyway. Three months in, my dark granite started looking cloudy and dull, and a quick test on a hidden spot under the sink confirmed the polish was leaving a film. Has anyone else ruined their countertop finish with products that claim to be stone-safe, or is my batch just extra picky?

Mike's right. Tested that same crap on my own counters last year. Film showed up under a flashlight in like a month. Dish soap and hot water, that's the whole secret. Those fancy sprays are just silicone and wax in a bottle.
