Overheard my boss say soft skills are overrated, nearly lost it

My buddy in logistics had a supplier in Cleveland almost walk off a deal over a 2 percent price gap, and he saved it by remembering the guy's kid was starting college and asking how the move went. That handshake and small talk was worth more than any pivot table he ever built.

Cold brew concentrate tasted like dirt for 8 straight days

Honestly did the pitcher filter fix the bitterness or just the dirt taste?

Light pollution filters are oversold for backyard viewing

Got a buddy who sold his pricey filter after realizing his neighbor's fence blocked more glow than the filter ever did.

Field notebook habit changed after a dig lead called me out

Funny, I went the OPPOSITE direction after a similar scolding. My old lead used to say if you record every hole with nothing in it, you end up with pages of garbage nobody will ever read again. The NEGATIVE data is just noise. You already know the ground is empty there because you dug it. Writing it down doesn't change that fact. Now I only note the positives and the weird stuff, like stained soil or odd stratigraphy. Saves me time, keeps my notes clean, and honestly, nobody has ever come back to me asking about a pit I skipped.

Took the express bus instead of the local line downtown last Tuesday and it was a whole different world.

Wait, you mean the express buses skip all those lights by the river? That's nuts. I've been sitting in that downtown mess for years and never knew there was a bus that just zips up the river road. If that really saves 30 minutes on a weekday I'm definitely trying it Friday.
