I used to hate painting trim until I tried a paint conditioner
For years I fought with brush strokes and weird bubbles on baseboards, figured it was just my technique. Then I picked up a $8 bottle of Floetrol on a whim last month for a bedroom project, and the difference was night and day. The paint leveled out smooth like glass, no sanding or extra coats needed. Has anyone else noticed conditioner fixes more issues than buying expensive paint normally would?

Floetrol is just a crutch for people who can't mix paint right or don't want to spend the time on proper prep work. If your paint needs a conditioner to level out, you're either using the wrong product for the surface or you're thinning it way too much with water already. Most house paint these days has built-in leveling agents that work fine if you don't overload the brush and lay it off properly. Why pay extra for an additive when a decent brush and a steady hand do the same thing for free?

$50 for a tiny bottle of Floetrol does seem like a lot when you could just try a different brush technique. I've seen guys spend more time arguing about paint additives than actually painting. Honestly if it works for you and you're happy with the finish, who really cares what anyone else thinks.
