My basement sump pump died during a storm and I found out at 3am

The power flickered at 2:47am during that thunderstorm in Toledo, and when I went to check the pit, the float switch was stuck under a piece of gravel, so now I'm drilling a tiny weep hole in the side of the float housing to stop it from catching debris again, has anyone else dealt with this fix or should I just replace the whole pump for $180?

That weep hole trick works great, just make sure it's small enough to keep out future gravel but big enough to let water through.
