TIL my basement floor drain needed way more slope than I thought

After 3 tries over a weekend I finally got the pitch right at 1/4 inch per foot and the water actually flows now. Anyone else struggle with getting concrete floor drains to drain properly?

yeah but like 1/4 inch per foot is actually the standard minimum for floor drains in most building codes. i get why youd think it was enough but honestly for concrete floors where water pools or debris gets washed down, you really should be aiming closer to 1/2 inch per foot if you can. the thing is concrete holds water on the surface way better than like dirt or gravel so even a tiny bit of slope matters a lot more than youd think. if its still pooling at all after your fix you might want to jackhammer that section out and redo it steeper.

Yeah a buddy of mine had to redo his whole garage floor over this.
