Appreciation post: the guy at Ubreakifix in Tucson showed me how to reseat my iPhone 11 screen cable for free
My iPhone 11 screen went black last Tuesday after I bumped it off the counter, and I was about to drop $129 on a new display. This tech named Marcus at the Ubreakifix on Broadway spent 10 minutes showing me how to pop the two pentalobe screws and reseat the display connector myself, then told me to buy the $8 kit on Amazon instead. Saved me over a hundred bucks and the phone has been fine for 6 days now. Has anyone else had a repair shop actually teach them instead of just charging them?

Hate to be that guy but Marcus probably cost himself his job if his boss found out, most of those places run on commission and the whole point is to sell you the $129 repair. A reseated cable that works today can also fail again in a month if the connector or the board has any damage, and then you are back to square one except now you have already opened the phone and Apple or anyone else can say you messed with it. I get that saving money feels great, and in my experience those little connector fixes sometimes do hold up fine for years, but it is not something I would count on as a real fix. Your mileage may vary, but if the screen was truly dead from a drop, the connector is rarely the whole story. Six days is not really long enough to call it solved either, no offense.
