My laptop screen went completely dark after a small spill last Thursday

I carefully took it apart, dried the board with a hair dryer on low heat for 20 minutes, and it powered right back on. Has anyone else saved a gadget this way, or did I just get lucky?

Hold on, you used a hair dryer? That's basically asking for more trouble. The heat can warp parts or push moisture deeper into the tiny spots you can't see. Just because it turned on once doesn't mean it's fixed. Corrosion can take weeks to show up and kill the board for good. You probably just got a temporary win before the real damage kicks in.
