Debate: MDF top vs. butcher block - which is actually better for a workbench?
I used to swear by MDF for workbench tops, cheap and easy to replace, but after spilling wood glue and paint on it for a year in my garage, it looked terrible. Now I'm trying a solid pine butcher block from a lumber yard near me in Akron, but it cost triple the MDF. Has anyone else made this switch and regretted the cost or loved the durability?

Honestly, I think you're overthinking it. MDF is the smarter choice because you can beat it up, flip it over, or just toss it and make a new top for like 30 bucks. Spending triple on butcher block feels like a waste when it'll still get dented and stained just as bad over time.

MDF can't really be flipped over if it's got a finished surface on one side.
