My neighbor yelled at me for using cinder blocks as bench legs
I set up my workbench on 4 stacked cinder blocks last spring, seemed solid enough. Old Man Jenkins from two doors over came by and said I was gonna crack my concrete floor and kill myself. He was right, I swapped to 2x4 framing with cross braces for 12 bucks and now it doesn't wobble when I hammer on it. Anyone else get feedback from a nosy neighbor that actually saved your butt?

Did I just get roasted by a neighbor AND a forum in one day? Yeah, feels like my whole life is just one big lesson in not crushing myself with cheap ideas.

Cinder blocks on their side are fine for stacking lumber but not much else. The hollow cells can crumble under point loads if you're not careful, especially if you ever get moisture in there and it freezes. A solid 2x4 frame like you built now will outlast any block setup and it doesn't look like a construction site leftover. Glad you caught that before something went sideways because a falling bench full of tools is no joke. Sometimes the old guys know what they're talking about, even if they come off like a pain in the neck.
