Tried to save money on drafting pencils and lost $60 on a mystery box

I saw this ad for a drafting supply mystery box online for $30, and I thought it would be a good deal to test out new gear. Turned out it was mostly broken leads, a bent triangle ruler, and some cheap erasers that smudged everything. I bought two boxes before I realized it was a total ripoff from some guy out of his garage in Ohio. Anyone else get burned by those supply grab bag deals?

Learned that lesson too, mystery boxes are almost always just overpriced junk nobody wanted. Sounds like that guy is just clearing out his trash for $30 a pop. Hope you can at least use the rulers for coasters or something.

wait actually I gotta push back a little on the "nobody wanted" part. sometimes mystery boxes are legit overstock or pallet stuff that stores couldn't sell, not always just literal trash. like I've seen some where people got decent brand name tools or electronics that just had damaged packaging. but yeah this guy's rulers and sticky notes thing sounds like he raided an office supply closet from 2005. the rulers might be fine for basic measuring but man $30 for what's basically a desk drawer cleanout is rough.
