PSA: Check the call button before you blame the motor

Got a call for a stuck car at the old Riverside Hotel downtown, and after an hour tracing the controller, I found a kid's gum wrapper jammed in the hall button. The front desk guy just laughed and said, 'That explains the sticky floor.' Anyone else run into weird stuff blocking the buttons?

Saw a story online about a building where the elevator kept stopping at the wrong floor. Turned out someone had spilled a whole soda on the panel and the dried sugar was making random connections. They had to take the whole thing apart to clean it. Makes you wonder what people are doing in there sometimes lol. That gum wrapper is a new one though, sticky floor comment is perfect.

Honestly the worst part is that someone probably tried to wipe it up with a napkin and just made it way worse. Like now it's a sticky mess instead of just a spill.

Wait, isn't the sticky mess actually better than leaving a spill? At least they tried to clean it up instead of just walking away. A spill is a slipping hazard right away, but a sticky spot just means your shoe might pull up a little. I'd rather deal with dried soda than step in a fresh puddle of it. What would you have wanted them to do?
