Question about hydraulic line crimping methods
I was doing a repair on a 5-story bank building and tried using a hand-crimper on the new hose, but the fitting leaked after a week. Switched to a bench-mounted crimper from the shop and it's held perfect pressure for over a month now. Anyone else find the bench tool is the only way to get a reliable seal on those high-pressure lines?

Our shop's bench crimper has never failed on lines over 3000 psi.

Yeah, but that's wild to me. I saw a post last week where a guy's bench crimper blew out a ferrule on a 3500 psi line, ruined a whole day's work. He swore it was rated for that pressure too. Makes you wonder if some shops just get lucky with a really good unit, or if others are pushing things past the safe limit without even knowing.

Never failed, huh? My shop's bench crimper has a perfect record too, if you ignore the time it turned a high pressure line into a surprise fountain. We called it the "trust fall" incident. Honestly, it probably says more about our shaky setup than the tool itself. Some days you're the crimper, some days you're the crimped.
