Rant: I spent 2 years facing my rail adjustments the wrong way

I was tightening the rail brackets on a Schindler 3300 from the top down for like 2 years. Always had to go back and re-level them after a few weeks. Then a Otis guy I met at a job in Denver pointed out I was putting compression on the wrong side of the clips. Now I start from the bottom up and the rails barely drift. Has any other mechanic had a dumb habit like that where you just assume you're doing it right until someone calls you out?

Yeah that bottom up trick saves so much headache once you finally try it.

Wasted so much time before finally giving bottom-up a real shot. My first attempt looked like a drunk spider designed a layout. Code was so tangled I had to start over anyway. Now I just build from the ground up and pretend past me never happened.
