Rant: Hit 1000 mugs washed in one shift and finally get why nobody lasts at this job
So I work at this busy coffee shop downtown and last Saturday I counted every mug I ran through the dishwasher. Ended up at 1,042 by closing time. That's not counting all the spoons and plates. My hands were pruny and my back hurt for two days after. Has anyone else tracked something ridiculous like this and realized the job is way more physical than people think?

Oh man, that's insane but I totally get it. One thing that saved my sanity was getting one of those anti-fatigue mats to stand on, even a cheap foam one helped my back way more than I expected. Also started doing shoulder rolls and stretching my wrists for like 30 seconds between rushes, it actually cut down on the soreness. For real though, 1000 mugs is brutal, your body is basically running a marathon while you're stuck in one spot lol.

and honestly that's the thing that gets me about jobs like this, we've built this whole world where people are expected to stand still for hours and just WORK but no one talks about how it's basically a weird form of torture. like think about it, you never see animals standing in one spot for hours, it's not natural. but we just accept it because we're supposed to be productive. those little stretches between tasks really do help though, I started doing that at my job and it made a huge difference, plus it wakes you up a bit. the mat thing is real too, I used to think it was just marketing hype but my dad got me one for christmas and I was shocked at how much it helped my knees.
