Rant: I thought cleaning a clogged shower drain was a 10 minute job, it took me over an hour.

A baking soda and vinegar soak works wonders for that.

Ericnguyen has a solid tip with the baking soda and vinegar. In my experience, you need to let that sit for a good while, like 30 minutes, before flushing it with hot water. A lot of times the clog is hair wrapped around the stopper, so pulling that out first saves a ton of hassle. Those little plastic drain snakes are cheap and work way better than trying to poke around with a wire hanger.
