Watched a friend's kitchen towel catch fire from a hot pan in Portland

It was just sitting on the stove handle, and now I keep all cloth at least three feet away from any burner. Anyone have a better spot to hang towels while cooking?

Honestly, that's why I switched to using a small metal hook on the side of the fridge. It keeps the towel handy but completely away from any heat source.

Wait, you really don't notice any heat there? Huh, I always thought the fridge got warm. You might have just changed my mind.

That's a smart fix. I read a kitchen safety tip once that said even the heat from the fridge's motor or the oven's vent can slowly dry out a towel over time, making it less fireproof. Your hook idea probably keeps it from getting that baked-out feeling.
