I just finished my 50th design sketch this year and it made me rethink everything

I hit that number yesterday and realized almost all of them were for women's wear. In my experience, a lot of fashion talk online focuses on womenswear, but I think menswear is way more interesting right now. I'm talking about playing with structure in blazers or using tech fabrics in casual pants. Has anyone else felt pushed toward one category and found more creative freedom in another?

Funny you say that, there was a piece in a magazine last month about how menswear shows are getting more experimental. It argued that the rules for men's clothes are looser now, so designers can try new things without people getting upset. That strict box for womenswear you mentioned is totally real, it can kill new ideas before they even start. Maybe hitting that number of sketches is a sign to follow that curiosity into menswear for a bit. What kind of tech fabrics were you looking at for those pants?

Wait a magazine actually SAID that out loud? That menswear gets to be more experimental? I'm shocked they admitted it so plainly. It feels like we all know it but no one in those fancy articles wants to say the quiet part out loud about womenswear being stuck.

That strict box for womenswear is real, so just start sketching menswear and see where it takes you.
