Just saw a woman on the bus with a jacket that had pockets sewn into the lining
I was on the 7:30 bus into the city yesterday and this woman got on with a really simple canvas jacket. She pulled her phone out of what looked like a normal side pocket, but then she reached inside the jacket and pulled her keys from a hidden pocket in the lining itself. It was a full pocket, not just a little slot. I've been thinking about it all day. It's such a smart fix for carrying stuff without ruining the clean look of a piece. You get the function without the bulk. I'm sketching out a bomber jacket idea now with maybe three of those internal pockets, one sized for a small notebook. Has anyone else tried adding hidden storage like that into a simple design? I'm curious about the best way to attach the lining so it doesn't sag.

Sounds like a great way to lose your keys forever. I tried a jacket with a hidden pocket once and it was a nightmare. You forget stuff is in there, then you're patting yourself down like a maniac when you need your wallet. The lining always gets weird and heavy too, pulls the whole jacket out of shape.

What changed your mind about it?

Yeah I was totally into the idea of hidden pockets at first. Thought it was so clever for travel, you know? Then I put my phone in one during a long flight. Spent twenty minutes after landing in a total panic thinking I left it on the plane. My jacket was just hanging weird the whole rest of the trip too, like you said. Totally ruined the cut of it.
