My sister told me 'pockets are a design flaw' and I'm still thinking about it

We were looking at a dress pattern last weekend, and I was complaining about how adding side seam pockets always messes up the line. She just shrugged and said, 'Maybe the flaw is thinking pockets ruin the line, not the pockets themselves.' She designs workwear for a factory in Knoxville, so she deals with function first. It hit different because she wasn't talking about hiding pockets, but about making the whole shape work with them as a key part, not an add-on. I've always tried to tuck them away or make them disappear, but she builds the drape around them from the start. Now I'm looking at my last three sketches and seeing all the places I forced the pocket in instead of letting it shape the piece. Has anyone else tried designing a garment where the pocket is a main feature, not a hidden detail?

Wow, that's a total game-changer for how you see the whole piece.

Wait, they actually put that detail in there? That completely flips the meaning of the last scene. Can't believe I missed it the first time. Now the main character's choice makes zero sense. Feels like the writer messed up or is messing with us.

Right there with you. My first watch through I was just happy to follow the plot. Now I gotta re-evaluate my whole life because of a background prop.
