Heard a guy at the lumber yard say he never checks for property pins

Honestly, I was grabbing a load of cedar pickets in Springfield last Tuesday and this older contractor was telling his helper to just 'eyeball it from the neighbor's fence'. Ngl, that made me stop cold. If you set a fence even six inches over the line, you're asking for a lawsuit and a tear-out order. I've seen two jobs get totally wrecked from that kind of guesswork. How many of you actually pull a plot plan or call for locates before you start a dig?

That's a nightmare waiting to happen. Seen too many good projects go bad over a few inches.

Seriously, that's just pure chaos. @taylorhunt is right, it's a recipe for a massive headache.

Yeah, that's how you end up with a really bad day and a huge bill. I mean, it's not just about the fence line either, what about buried lines? Hitting a gas line because you didn't call 811 is a whole different level of trouble. It's wild to me that some folks treat property lines like a suggestion.
