Saw a fence in Austin with the posts set in straight concrete, no gravel at all.
The whole line is already leaning after one wet season. How do you even explain drainage to a homeowner who thinks concrete is always stronger?

Ugh yeah that's the classic "concrete fixes everything" mindset. People forget concrete traps water like a bowl and rots the posts from the inside out.

My uncle lost a whole fence line that way, lilycraig. He was so proud of that concrete pour, said it would last a hundred years. The posts were mulch in about seven.
