Appreciation post: My 1980s bathroom vanity went from grimy to great with a $30 can of paint

I finally got around to refinishing my old oak vanity in the main bathroom. For years it was stained and sticky, but after a good sanding and two coats of Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations in 'Linen', it looks brand new. The whole project took a weekend and saved me the $500+ I was quoted for a replacement. Has anyone else had good luck painting old wood cabinets, or did it chip on you after a while?

My 1987 oak cabinets still look perfect after three years with that same paint.

How do you keep them from chipping near the handles? Mine looked good for a year but then the paint started wearing off in all the high touch spots.
