Update on my leaky kitchen faucet in the apartment...

I watched a video from a guy in Portland and learned to replace the cartridge myself for $12 instead of calling the super. Anyone know a good brand for those little O-rings so they last longer?

That's a smart fix, saving the service call for something bigger. The O-ring material makes a big difference. Did the video mention if yours were basic rubber or something like silicone? The cheap ones in hardware store kits dry out fast near heat.

My old car's heater hose had the same brittle o-ring problem.

What a relief to fix it yourself and save that cash! Those little o-rings can be such a pain. My bathroom tap dripped for months because the new ring I put in swelled up and got weird. Is the one under your kitchen sink getting hit with hot water a lot? That heat really beats up the basic rubber ones. I switched to silicone for my bathroom and it's been solid for over a year now.
