Used to just slap a new coat of paint over any old wall issue

I had this terrible crack in my dining room wall that I covered up twice with paint, and it kept coming back after winter. Finally scraped it all down, found old drywall tape lifting, and re-taped the whole seam properly three months ago. Anyone else learn the hard way that paint hides nothing, or am I the only one who skipped the prep work for years?

It's just drywall tape, not a foundation issue. People act like they're engineering a bridge when it's really a 20 dollar fix. Seems like the kind of thing that happens to everyone once.

Learned that lesson fixing a hairline crack in my hallway ceiling last spring.

@adam_hernandez hope you didn't create a bigger crack trying to hide the first one. Ceilings have a way of fighting back.
