Finally sorted my bulb storage with some old crates.
I had spring bulbs all over the place in plastic bags. Found some wooden crates at a yard sale and cleaned them up. Lined each with newspaper and wrote labels on the sides. Now I can see what I have for planting without digging through piles.

That crate system looks way better than my bag of mystery bulbs.

My uncle tried that shoebox method one year and ended up planting marigolds in November. It was a sad sight. I feel your pain, the_wade, because my garage has a bucket labeled "stuff" that's basically the same deal. Phoenixcampbell is right, a good crate system beats a mystery bag every time. What kind of bulbs did you even end up with in that bag?

Remember that time you tried to organize your seeds, @phoenixcampbell? I had a similar mess with a shoebox full of seed packets. I tried to sort them by season, but then I got lazy and just shoved them all back in. Now it's a true mystery box, and I just plant whatever my hand grabs first. Your crate system idea is making me feel like I need to step up my game.
