My dad swore watching reruns of The Outer Limits as a kid would teach me something, and he was right

He kept saying the episode The Architects of Fear from 1963 was a mind trip and after finally finding it on a random streaming site last week I get why he was obsessed with it, has anyone else tracked down a show their parents loved that turned out to be way better than you expected?

Man that's exactly the kind of thing that sneaks up on you. It's wild how something from decades ago can still hit you right in the gut, makes you realize good storytelling never really gets old. My own dad tried to get me into some old black and white westerns and I brushed them off for years, then one lazy Sunday I gave one a shot and saw exactly what he was talking about, it's like these shows had a slower pace that let the ideas breathe in a way modern stuff doesn't always manage.

and yeah @abby308 you're hitting on something real there, that slower pace thing is exactly what hooked me too. my mom was all about the original Twilight Zone and I used to roll my eyes so hard when she'd put it on, but one night I stayed up sick on the couch and watched The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street and I honestly couldn't believe it was from 1960, it hit harder than most shows today. it's like those old shows weren't afraid to just sit with an idea and let it sink in, they didn't have to fill every second with explosions or twist endings. the black and white actually helped me focus more on the story and the characters, it stripped away all the flashy distractions. I ended up binging like ten episodes that week and had to call my mom to apologize for being such a brat about it, she just laughed and said "told you so.
