Showerthought: I was wrong about 'The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.' being a total flop

I was talking to my cousin in Omaha last week and he brought up the show. He said, 'That show wasn't forgotten, it just got buried by 'The X-Files' on the same night.' It hit different because I'd always blamed the weird western-sci-fi mix. My favorite part was when Brisco found the Orb and the theme music kicked in. Has anyone else had a show they misjudged like that?

My uncle in Toledo still talks about how MASH got crushed in the ratings by The Waltons for a whole season. It's the same thing, where timing can kill a good show faster than a bad idea. We always look for a simple reason, like a weird genre mix, when the real answer is often just bad luck in the schedule. I've done this with movies too, blaming the director until I learn the studio cut the budget in half right before filming. Makes you second-guess your hot takes.

Man, my dad still gripes about how Sliders got wrecked by moving time slots every season. We blamed the writing, but it never had a chance.

Yeah, @derek_ramirez, timing really is the silent killer.
