My foreman in Toledo said my risers were too small for a 200 pound casting
He pointed out the shrinkage cavity on a big gear blank we poured last month and said I was cutting corners. I switched to using a 20% bigger riser size chart from an old handbook he gave me. Has anyone else had to change their feeding setup after a bad pour?

That old handbook saved us after a similar shrinkage issue on some pump housings. We ended up going 25% over the chart size for anything over 150 pounds, just to be safe. It fixed the problem completely.

That handbook trick works every time. We bumped ours up 30% after a bad batch of valve bodies and haven't had a shrink since.
