inJust hit 100 coffee shops on my local map and the number actually freaked me out a little
Hitting 100 is a sign you're doing it right, not a reason to stop. That map is a real record of your city you can't get from just walking around. Most people waste their free time scrolling, at least you have a wall full of proof you did something.

inI always used a 2x4 as a straight edge for marking long cuts, but a friend lent me his 8-foot aluminum level.
Totally used to just buy a new one without thinking. Mia's point about it being a straight edge is actually a game changer. Makes you look at every old tool in the garage differently. Now I'm checking what else just needs a quick fix instead of a trip to the store.

inTried a 4-foot frost depth for a vinyl fence in Minneapolis last winter
We had the same problem with a gate post moving every year. My neighbor, who's a retired contractor, told me to dig the hole like a bell shape, wider at the bottom. You still go down to code, but you pour a concrete cookie or "footing" at the base before setting the post. It acts like an anchor. It was a pain to dig but nothing has budged in three seasons now.
