Shoutout to reading mold vents before everything went digital

Back in my early days at the shop, we learned to check vent holes by sight and how the sand felt. A seasoned guy showed me the trick to spotting a clean vent line (you know, like looking for a straight path out). If the vents were messed up, the metal would trap air and ruin the piece. These days, the computer programs map it all out ahead of time, which is neat. But having that hands-on skill means I can still catch things the screen might miss. It's one of those changes that makes you appreciate how the trade evolves.

Funny how the nose can catch a burning motor or bad weld before any sensor alarms go off.

Ever notice if that kind of instinct works across trades... or just in specific fields? Like can a carpenter smell bad wood the same way?

That trick to spotting a clean vent line reminds me of what I heard about welders judging heat by color. They say new gauges are great, but the eye still catches subtle shifts. Hands-on experience just adds a layer screens can't match.
