Can we talk about the old Hakko 936 versus the newer FX-888D for console work?

Well @theaward, the old one guessed the temp and the new one actually knows.

My roommate's mom said 'it's just dirt in a bucket' when she saw my setup, which made me realize I was overthinking the whole process.

Oh man, that hits home. I used to get so stuck on the perfect green to brown ratio. It felt like a science project. My pile just sat there, wet and stinky. Letting go of that and just mixing whatever I had changed everything. It really is just dirt in a bucket sometimes.

PSA: I finally gave in and tried a slack tub for my quenching oil

Always thought that penny thing was an old wives' tale. Then my dog's water bowl kept getting that gross film no matter how much I scrubbed it. Tried @jason524's copper penny trick with a pre-1982 penny I found in a drawer. Left it in there for a week. Bowl stayed completely clean. Guess the copper really does stop the slime from growing. Changed my mind completely.

Question about buying spices in bulk

Yeah @finley820, that cinnamon trap is real. I did the same thing with cardamom pods last fall. Felt so smart filling my little bag, then the receipt showed I paid like twelve bucks for two ounces. Now I just use my phone calculator right there in the aisle.

Just realized a simple ground fault in a 1980s panel took me a full afternoon to trace.

Seems like a lot of work for a ground fault. Those old Bryant panels are usually pretty solid. A cracked neutral bar is rare, are you sure it wasn't just a loose connection you fixed when you pulled everything?
