Client ghosted me after I delivered the final mockup - lesson learned the hard way

I was sitting in a coffee shop in Austin last Tuesday, finishing up a logo package for a startup. Sent over the final files, then crickets. No reply to my follow up email, no payment. After 4 days I checked their social media and saw they already posted the logo. I had to send a formal invoice with a late fee attached to get their attention. Has anyone else had a client just disappear like that after delivery?

Honestly I gotta push back a little here. They posted the logo and you had to send a late fee invoice? That sounds more like a minor annoyance than some huge betrayal. Like yeah it sucks they went silent but you got paid in the end right? Ngl a lot of clients are just flaky like that, doesn't mean it's some huge lesson learned scenario.

First time a startup in Seattle pulled that on me (a brewery, of all places), I started sending every deliverable as a low-res watermark until payment cleared.
