Found a cheap way to track invoices without paying for FreshBooks
I was losing track of who paid me and who didn't, so I started using a simple Google Sheet with color coding and a checkbox column for "paid." It cost me zero dollars and took 10 minutes to set up. Has anyone else found a free tool that works better than the expensive apps?

I get what you're saying about Google Sheets being free, but I tried that route and it was a mess for me. With more than 30 clients, keeping colors straight and checking boxes got old fast, and I ended up missing a payment from one of my regulars because a checkbox was unchecked by mistake. I actually prefer FreshBooks for automated reminders alone, since it sends a polite nudge to clients before I even think about it. The time I save not chasing down payments is worth the $15 a month, at least in my experience.

Yeah I saw this article recently where a freelancer was saying the same thing about Sheets getting unwieldy past like 20 clients. It really does sound like a nightmare keeping track of all that manually, the automation part is a game changer for sure.
