That 20 minute rule from a coworker changed how I shop
I overheard a lady at the grocery store last week telling her friend she only buys ingredients she can turn into a meal in 20 minutes or less. It got me thinking about all the random stuff I have sitting in my fridge like that half bag of spinach and a block of cream cheese I never use. So I tried it with what I had at home, threw the spinach and cream cheese into a pasta with some garlic and it was done in 15 minutes. Now I'm looking at my fridge differently and wondering what quick meals you all make with just 3 random ingredients you find in there?

What if that spinach was already going bad and the whole experiment backfired?

Does this rule still count if you factor in the time it takes to actually chop and prep the ingredients? lol I feel like a lot of my "10 minute" meals are really 25 once I wash, peel and dice everything. My go to lazy hack is just tossing canned black beans, frozen corn, and a spoonful of salsa into a bowl and microwaving it for 2 minutes - dead simple and uses up random stuff.

Man that 20 minute thing falls apart fast when you're slow at dicing onions like me. I timed myself once and just chopping a bell pepper took me 8 minutes because I kept stopping to check my phone.
