Bought a $30 vacuum sealer on a whim and it's already saved me more than that

Found a cheap one at the hardware store and figured why not. I've been freezing bulk chicken and extra veggies from the garden, and nothing's gotten freezer burned yet. What other cheap kitchen gadgets have actually been worth it for you?

Honestly, I've had the opposite luck with those cheap ones. Mine broke after a few months, just felt flimsy. Ended up wasting more food when it quit sealing right.

Broken seal on a cheap container is annoying, sure. But calling it "wasting food" feels a bit much. Can't you just use the thing as a bowl with plastic wrap on top? Or move the leftovers to a different dish? Seems like a small problem to get that upset over.

My old vacuum sealer was a total letdown, just like thomas_gonzalez said. The seal gave out after six months and ruined a whole batch of chili I was saving. That's why finding a good cheap one feels like such a win. A simple garlic press has been my best find lately, the kind that's just one solid piece of metal. It costs maybe five bucks and I use it almost every day. It just works and you never have to worry about it breaking.
