My bulk bin mishap at the co-op taught me a key lesson

I was filling a bag with lentils and the whole spout came off, dumping like five pounds onto the floor. The manager helped me clean up and then showed me the trick of putting your bag over the spout before you open it. Anyone have other bulk section hacks to avoid a mess?

My local co-op has those little bag ties now, which is a game changer. @ericgonzalez is right, you gotta treat those lentils like tiny escape artists.

My first time with the bulk coffee beans was a total disaster, I basically created a small avalanche on the floor. The bag trick is a lifesaver for sure. I also double knot the top of my bag before I even walk over to the bins, just in case I get clumsy. It saves me from a trail of quinoa following me through the store.

That "double knot the top of the bag" step is smart. I used to just twist it closed and hope for the best. Then I had a lentil incident that looked like a crime scene in the baking aisle. Now I treat every bulk bag like it's full of tiny, eager escape artists. The double knot is non-negotiable.
