Back in the day I bought a 'miracle' wipe-on poly that promised a pro finish in one coat

It was some late night infomercial thing that cost me about $45 for a tiny bottle, which was a lot back then. I used it on a nice oak dresser and it looked awful, super streaky and soft. Had to strip the whole thing and start over, wasted a full weekend. Anyone else get burned by those too-good-to-be-true products before we all knew better?
