Pro tip: My $40 smart plug from last year just bricked itself overnight and took my whole morning coffee routine with it.

The app just shows 'device offline' and a factory reset does nothing, so now I'm manually boiling water like some kind of animal while I wait for support to maybe email me back.

My old dumb coffee maker lasted eight years, but this smart plug failure finally convinced me simple is better.

Smart home stuff is just not worth the trouble for basic things. My old kettle has worked every day for a decade without a single update. Relying on an app for coffee seems like asking for a bad morning. What made you go for a smart plug for something so simple?

Honestly I get the "bad morning" fear lol. I got the smart plug because my coffee maker has no timer and I'm half asleep before work. It's nice to have it start brewing when my alarm goes off, but yeah you gotta keep the physical switch on and hope the wifi doesn't act up.
