That one comment about my headphone reviews changed everything
Someone told me I sounded like a spec sheet. Not a person. Just listing numbers and features. Took me a while to realize they were right. I started actually talking about how things feel and sound to me. Now my most popular review is just me describing listening to Fleetwood Mac on cheap earbuds. Has anyone else had a reader call them out in a way that actually helped?

A good wake-up call, that. When I started my tree service I kept listing equipment and technique, until a customer told me they just wanted to know if the job would sound like a helicopter or a lawn mower. Now I tell people whether the cleanup will leave their yard peaceful or looking like a storm hit it. Sometimes the simplest feedback is the most valuable, you just have to swallow your pride and hear it.

Yeah that spec sheet comment hit home for me too. I used to write about my photography gear like I was reading off a press release. Someone finally told me my photos looked flat and boring and they couldn't tell what I actually liked about the camera. That snapped me out of it. I started talking about the dumb stuff like how a lens feels in your hand or why I keep using a cheap old body because I know exactly how it handles in bad light. Now people actually ask me questions instead of just scrolling past.

What is it about specs that makes us think they're what matter? I've seen people shoot amazing stuff with a beat up old Rebel and total garbage with a top of the line body because the photographer had no feel for it. The connection you have with your gear always beats the numbers on the box.
