TIL a reviewer on YouTube called 'Tech Honest' got a free phone and still gave it a bad score

I was watching his review of the new Nova X7 phone, and he straight up said the battery life was terrible even though the company sent it to him. It made me realize some people actually DO give honest opinions even when they get free stuff. How do you guys figure out which reviewers to actually trust?

People get way too worked up about this stuff. It's just a phone review. The guy got a free phone and said the battery sucked, big deal. Maybe the battery actually DOES suck. Or maybe he's just trying to look tough for his viewers. You can't really know. I watch a few different people and see if their complaints line up. If three people all say the screen is dim, it probably is.

right? i saw that too lol. i usually just check if they ever say anything bad about the stuff they get for free, that's the real test for me.

My method is to look up their older videos from two years ago. If they were negative about a free product back then, they're probably honest now too. @carr.james makes a good point about checking if multiple people say the same thing. I also pay attention to how they describe things they bought with their own money versus free stuff. If a reviewer can't name one real flaw in a free item, that's a red flag for me. The battery complaints do seem pretty widespread though, so I'd trust that one specifically.
