TIL the hard way that paying extra for the 'smart' version of a gadget is sometimes just dumb

I had to pick between the regular Govee LED strip lights and the 'smart' version that cost $40 more. I went cheap, and honestly, the basic remote works fine for my living room setup. I don't need an app to turn my lights purple. Anyone else skip the smart features and feel like they dodged a headache?

Smart" often just means "more ways to fail.

Lol yeah exactly. But honestly the worst part is when the "smart" thing just makes the basic task harder. Like my buddy's fridge has a screen that takes forever to change the temp, when a dial would be instant.

Remember buying a smart plug for my coffee maker that needed its own special app just to set a basic timer. The app stopped working after some update, and I was stuck with a dumb plug that cost three times as much. Sometimes the old school way is just more reliable, like your basic remote. Feels like companies add "smart" as an excuse to charge more for stuff that breaks easier.
