Serious question, a park ranger in Yosemite told me granite isn't always gray

He said the pink in some of the domes is from potassium feldspar, which made me realize I'd been ignoring a whole color family. What's the most surprising mineral color you've learned about?

Wait, sulfur is bright yellow.

Wasn't there a whole thing about sulfur's color being off in old textbooks? I remember reading that the pure stuff is actually a pale yellow, more like lemon zest than a highlighter. @xena_kim, that bright yellow image might be from a chunk that's not totally clean or has other minerals mixed in. It's one of those facts that gets repeated so much everyone just accepts it.

Yeah, I remember getting a chunk in chemistry class and it was way more of a pale lemony color than that bright yellow.
