Ugh, this is the classic "experience vs. thing" trap. We're all told to buy less stuff and make memories instead. So you pick the big party, and then half the guests cancel, the cake melts, and your uncle argues about politics. Meanwhile, the necklace just sits there, being nice and quiet. I've seen it with vacations that turn into stressful trips, while a new couch gives you peace for years.
