My foreman said to always use a 1/4 inch spacer for shower doors, but it cost me a job

He was firm on that rule for years at our shop in Denver. I followed it on a big custom install last spring, a frameless door for a high-end remodel. The gap looked huge to the homeowner, who said it felt cheap and unsafe. They hired another crew to redo it with a 1/8 inch spacer, and we lost the final payment. Has anyone else had a client push back on the standard spacing for a cleaner look?

Yeah, that "huge gap" thing. My buddy's crew got the same complaint on a fancy bathroom job last year. The client said it looked like a mistake and made them redo the whole wall.

Why do people pay for skill then hate the details?

Ugh, same! Had a client call a 1/4" gap "builder grade" on their million dollar house. They made us redo it for free to get it tighter.
