Showerthought: I tried using a heat gun to soften old putty on a 1920s window and it worked too well
The glass itself got hot enough to crack along a lead line, which I've never seen before. Learned that on really old, thin glass, you gotta keep the heat moving fast and never focus it. Anyone have a better method for removing century-old glazing compound without risking the pane?

What kind of heat gun were you using?

Just some cheap thing from the hardware store, honestly. It gets the job done but it's basically a glorified hair dryer. I'm pretty sure my grandma's old blow dryer had more settings.

Cheap tools exist just to make you appreciate the expensive ones later.
