TIL I've been cutting my own glass wrong for years

I was helping my buddy on a big storefront job in Tacoma and he saw me score a piece. He just said, 'Dude, you're pushing that cutter like you're mad at it.' I realized I was using way too much pressure, which is why my cuts were always so chippy. I tried his lighter touch and the glass just snapped clean. How did I go this long without someone telling me?

Pushing that cutter like you're mad at it" is the perfect way to put it. I did the same thing for a long time. I thought you needed that heavy score to get a clean break. Turns out you just need one smooth, even pass with steady pressure. Let the wheel do the work. It feels wrong because it's so light, but the glass just pops apart on the line. Total game changer.

Wait you're telling me you don't have to basically crush the glass with the cutter? @wade_perez I've been doing it wrong for years then, putting my whole weight into it like I'm trying to start a lawnmower. That light touch feels so unnatural, like it's not even doing anything. I guess the tool really is smarter than I am, which is a scary thought.
