Heard a guy at the coffee shop say his new watch was running backwards

He said he bought it yesterday and it was fine, but this morning the second hand was moving counter-clockwise. He showed it to me and sure enough, it was ticking the wrong way. Has anyone ever had a digital clock or something show the wrong time for no clear reason?

That's wild, but honestly it makes me wonder about magnets. Strong ones can mess with the tiny gears in an automatic watch. Maybe he set it down near something magnetic overnight, like a speaker or a phone case. Those little parts get confused and start running backwards sometimes. It's a known thing with nicer watches, not so much digital stuff. Could that explain what he saw?
