A local in a cafe in Maine said they skip Bar Harbor for a tiny island nearby

They mentioned a place called Isle au Haut that has part of Acadia National Park but almost no crowds. I looked it up and it's only reachable by a mail boat ferry. Has anyone actually been there and can share what it's like?

That ferry schedule is a real pain if you miss the only boat back.

Parker is right about the ferry being worth it. I missed the last boat once and had to stay in a tiny room above the general store. That weird mix of panic and then total peace is the whole point of the place. You walk a trail like Duck Harbor and just hear waves and rocks, no people. Pack a big lunch and a raincoat, because the weather changes fast out there.

Did you end up going to Isle au Haut? I took that mail boat ferry and it was totally worth it for the quiet trails and rocky coast views without the crowds.
