PSA: Our compost bin taught me a harsh lesson about coffee filters.

I started composting my coffee grounds and realized the paper filters don't break down if they have a plastic coating. Most store-bought filters are lined with plastic to prevent tearing, which means they sit in landfills for years. Switch to unbleached filters that will break down in compost, or use a metal one you can wash and reuse. It's a small change that cuts down on waste big time.

Those white Melitta filters I used for years looked papery but never broke down. My compost pile is full of sad little filter ghosts now, so I finally bought the plain brown ones.

yeah I had to learn that the hard way too. switched to the plain brown filters and they break down like nothing. makes the whole compost thing actually work right.
